When my 16 year old son was charged with possession of a controlled substance, I was pretty shocked. I know that every parent thinks their child is really good, but it was true of mine. He is highly motivated, always thinks of others and has had good decision making skills. Unfortunately, he made some new friends this year and and let peer pressure carry him down a path that he never should have been on. Thankfully, the judge recognized that based on his report cards, community service work, participation in the band and on student council, that this was not typical behavior for my son. He told him that if he completed Minor in Possession Classes as well as additional community service, he would consider the case closed. He even suggested that my son could take them online so he could fit them in on whenever he had free time. This will make it so he doesn't have to miss any school, band practice or his other daily responsibilities. I was 100 percent in favor of that, and my son was very appreciative too. He learned so much during those classes that I don't think he will ever be caught with drugs again. In fact, I think he will end up helping those who are heading down that wrong path too.
