When our daughter was ordered to take alcohol and drug awareness class as part of her sentence for possessing marijuana, we were very thankful for a number of reasons. We felt that this type of punishment would be much more effective since she could learn about the dangers of alcohol and drugs. Her father and I took it very seriously, and I was happy to see that she was as well. The judge told us that there were classes she could take in the city, but where we are in Kentucky, it would take us about an hour just one way to get there. He told us that there were classes online that he would approve as well, so we went that route instead. Our daughter was embarrassed and ashamed, and we felt those were two good emotions for her to have since it would make her think twice about future actions. She learned a lot about drugs and alcohol during the class and I don't think we will have a problem with this again.
