The first thing that I thought when I picked up my college-age son at the jail was that I was so grateful he was okay. One of his dumb frat boy buddies had been driving drunk and went into a ditch in his truck with those over sized tires. It was just sheer stupid luck that none of them were badly hurt. This year, my wife and I were going to get him a car for his 21st birthday. After this incident, we decided that he was going to take some Alcohol Classes before we gave him the car. He was not too happy about it at first but the accident really did scare him a lot. I think it is appropriate to drill it into our son's head that drinking and driving, or binge drinking in general, is a horrible idea that can have deadly consequences. Right now we are just looking for the right course.
