My ex-fiance Tyler has a horrible addiction to alcohol. When we first met things started off great. As time passed we became engaged to be married. We were happy and I just thought that Tyler liked to have fun. But eventually things stated to go downhill. As we got closer to our impending wedding date, Tyler started hanging out with his friends more than usual. He would stay out all night and come home smelling like alcohol. When he did stay home he would drink so much alcohol that he would pass out. I had no idea how to handle his heavy drinking. I loved him and wanted everything to workout but I didn't know how to make it work. Just one month before our scheduled wedding date Tyler was arrested for DUI. I was devastated so I broke off our engagement. It was hard to do at first but I believe that it was for the best. Tyler did not receive any jail time because it was his first offence. He was placed on probation and forced to attend Alcohol Awareness Classes. Tyler and I still talk several times per week and I have noticed a positive change in him since he started attending those alcohol awareness classes. Those classes have forced him to deal with the reality of how alcoholism affects everyone involved. I recommend these type of classes to those that are seeking help with alcohol addiction.
